Kirsten Coombs for Board of Education, District 4

Welcome to my website for my 2020 campaign for Howard County Board of Education for District 4. While we’ve accomplished a lot in the past few years, we still have work to do.

Why I’m Running Again…

Howard County schools are the backbone of our community and our primary economic driver. As a Wilde Lake mom, I want to ensure that we continue providing the highest quality education to all of our children and families.

Serving on the Board of Education offers many chances to make a difference in our incredibly diverse community. I want to continue that service to extend the progress we’ve made over the past few years. I take a collaborative and balanced approach as a Board member, and I think we need more of that unifying spirit in our school system to solve the challenges we are facing. I’ve helped usher in new leadership to the school system and rebuild the relationships with our educators and staff to increase their voice in decision-making. I’ve seen the struggles of children with special needs. I’ve fought for school capacity and reasonable residential timelines. HCPSS has saved millions of dollars by bringing on a General Counsel. The MPIA system published on our website was a major success.

Seeing children play in their first violin concert, watching the fifth grade Simulated Congressional Hearings, and meeting the community members who support education make this the most rewarding job I’ve ever had. I’m not done yet. There is more to do, more partnerships to make, and more advocacy to voice.

Please take a look around the site and let me know at kirsten@kirstencoombs.org what YOU think about our schools.

Thank you for your support and I hope to see you on the campaign trail.
